Scientific rigor is all about splitting hairs. No matter how much work
you lay down, as long as you don't go out of your way to eliminate all
conceivable variables, you're basically still in the dark. :)

The idea that two factory standard Touch units can sound differently is
not new to me. I think it's been discussed on this forum before. And if
they have been produced in several batches, it's not completely
implausible is it? 

It wouldn't hurt to test the unmodded Touches against each others, so
at least you know that the listeners who -can- hear differences between
them when one is modded, -cannot- hear differences between them none is
modded. After all, if they can hear differences in both scenarios, it
doesn't make much sense to attribute the differences to the mods, does
it?
