Note the the intellectual dishonesty part , I wonder who owns TAS nowadays they *know* that they lie even if the crackpots writing the articles may be just that .
But a repeat my argument again . The cause and effects they are investigating is very unlikely. There methods doing is so is deeply flawed they won't work. So the article is useless . Item_audio should read up on how a squeezebox works it is not a sound card that's the deal. A sound card or an USB connected DAC can be susceptible to some influence by the serving computer and OS there are well known methods around that hardly mentioned by this article, like asio or wasapi drivers kernel streaming direct sound et al. Instead they wax on about different bit perfect ripping software sounding different which again is saying the a copy of a file is not a copy if that where true we would not be to writing these posts , the existence of this forum or any computer in working order proves that they are wrong. TAS could have written a small article on what to do with computer audio, there is a base of useful knowledge about it but they chosen another path, the insane A squeezebox is actually playing the content locally with asynchronous network protocols in the background streaming the content to a > 30s buffer thus completely decoupled from what's going on in the computer especially it's audio system and drivers, if you don't believe me just uninstall all audio hardware and drivers of the server and the squeezebox stills plays music . This is probably also true for other streamers, again this is a different concept than a DAC directly connected to a computer. Now the TAS article are not saying much about streamers like squeezebox linn naim sooloos and the ohters as there is not much to say about the computer side that would be a very short article. I write it here: Rip lossless to FLAC with dBpower amp or EAC as they can use the accurate rip database to verify bitperfect rips and use a suitable serving software to your streamer . If your CD's are in mint condition and the CD drive is in good condition you might get identical results with any ripper, but dBp or EAC would care for the scratched ones and actually verify your rip . Some Linux ripping software is in between these solutions doing multiple local rips and compare them like rubyripper but this is not the 100% bombproof verification but surely good enough. Some one with some more author skills can improve that a bit. So get your facts together about the different means of playback using the computer directly or stream to one of the network players available . -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
