The disturbing  thing is that HD fracks rip SACD's to 24/176 ?? They
often use the actual discs they have no access to master files ?

As you say the overwhelming majority is produced in PCM anyway , so
there must been a PCM master somewhere before converting back to DSD
that's what they should use and also be open about it's pedigree but it
migth  be of lower rate then 176.4 , and then what ;)
