Fronts are Salk Ht-2 TL's with a matching center speaker. Rears are 3
cheap Polks. The Sub is a Rythmik F12. I can do a 5.1 or 6.1 setup for
HT. The Salks do a fine job on there own with stereo music. I'm not
entirely sure if the sub ever enhanced music that much. HT sources are
all HDMI. Transporter is the main audio source with a tape deck and SACD
player (5.1) which are almost never used.

What would you replace a dead integrated home receiver with? I do have a
bias towards integrated amps because of simplicity but I can probably
live with separates too. There is no strict budget constraint but I do
believe that speakers are the most important bit, that wires are just
electrical resistance, amps just need to deliver sufficient power
without a fuss and the rest is beyond my hearing ability. So maybe stay
below half the total cost of speakers That arbitrary budget would be
~3000. Can exceed it for a good reason. My dead receiver was a Pioneer
SC-27 for $1500. I do find a direct stereo path attractive. So a direct
XLR connection between the Transporter and a power amp does appeal to
me. I love the sound of the Transporter connected to a PS Audio HCA-2
powering the Salks. How do I combine that with surround sound with the
least complexity?
