The Transporter SE is available on the Logitech VIP site, as stated above, for $750 often. Without getting a special email from Logitech, I went to the VIP site and the TP SE is listed for $999 today. The Touch, Radio, and Duet are no longer available from the Logitech site. Amazon has used Touches for $495, and a new one listed at $895... I think if you can live with the 24/96 sample rate limitations, the Tranporter SE for $750 is still a good buy.
Also, remember the TP can be essentially used as a digital preamp. It has multiple inputs (no USB, however -> use a USB to SPDIF converter), all of which can be used and selected via the remote or phone apps. I think the digital vs. analog volume control arguments are more theoretical than practical, especially if you end up using the upper end of the volume range on the TP (depends on your system). For sound, you would have probably have to spend $500 on an external DAC to beat the TP. If you combine sound and functionality, you would probably have to spring for a Benchmark or more pro-level DAC for over $1000 to top the TP. Plus you need a Touch... I remind folks of this because I was forced to use the TP this way, as my analog preamp needs service. Sounds good to me. I would have a serious listening shootout when the preamp is fixed, except I need to use the nice phonostage in the analog preamp. Trying the TP this way sure makes me wonder about the use of less boxes and cables in the signal chain, however... Finally, the TP is just more visible in an equipment rack "across the room." You can display a lot more information on the TP screen than with a Touch, and can see it from the listening chairs. The Touch screen is just too small to be functional at much distance. I do own a Touch, and love it also, BTW. Aw jeez. Now I wanna buy another Transporter ;^) (And Touch... and Radio... and Boom... sigh). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ desertrat58's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9431 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97815 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
