Doing this doesn't have to be hard - just revert back to your previous setup and replay what sounded different/better. A regular scenario with me is I'll listen to something after making a change (software, hardware, new headphones, new speakers...whatever) and think "wow, this part of the music really stands out now". Then, I'll switch back and many times, I'll think "oh, I can hear it with the old setup too...". Sometimes just paying closer attention you will hear things differently than you may have previously.
