No i dont think it is really invalid just suggesting a possible mechanism for this effect I can t really know, the result is interesting enough any way . the contradiction I see is . 1. 320kbps files are indistinguishable from the original ( in general, you can probably always find rare exceptions). 2. People have singled out Archimagos file with his coding scheme . You can always speculate that all 3 files are among these rare exceptions that breaks the normal mp3 coding scheme too so that the special coding would not matter ,what I read from the blog was that he ran two passes of the mp3 encoder cascade coding is usually to be avoided you can get artefacts ,but the explanations was a bit over my head so I trust he knew what he was doing with these special settings :) . And the test proves one thing for the participants that mp3 is not as bad as they thougth it was , so it has a result that is usefull . So i'm with Gary here "There is no perfect experiment" this one may not have provided the strongest case for "320kbps files are indistinguishable from the original " but the side results are just as exciting . I'm not a scientist . but the question "320kbps files are indistinguishable from the original " begs for a meta study there are so many of these tests done , meta study I think is when you compile data from many studies of the same subject this can make the evidence stronger as all these test very likely have different methodical shortcomings and you increase the amount of data . You have sub categories if you really want to. You can do this for pro listeners , for general public with different kind of music well recorded or not and for age groups . Btw was Age in the survey questions ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98010
