I've only ever seen photos of the SE, but that plastic blanking plug to fill the gap where the knob went looks butt-ugly to me, so I'd want the non-SE for aesthetic reasons if nothing else. (I never use the knob on my Transporter).

Chances are the motherboards in SEs are just as old as the ones in some non-SEs. (I wonder how many production runs there were for TP motherboards?)
