I believe in 1998 there surely where made mastertapes out of the mix with extended HF content. I am also pretty sure vendors like AS get a capture of that tape delivered. What i highly doubt is that these captures are done 2 times, one as DSD and one as PCM. Since AS does not clarify anything about that case my understandingn is they simply convert PCM themself and let some wackos explain how beautiful the DSD version is.
