Possibly but that does not necessarily affect its audio performance , in
fact any systematic proper testing I've seen on a squeezebox indicates
that it's a non issue . So just enjoy the music .

But yes in our forum we have people also claiming all sorts of things
sound different , so it's no surprise that the FLAC vs wav/pcm argument
never dies either ( in the real world it's been dead for years ).

the file types setting are there to help with different server hardware
and OS and other corner cases that not handled correctly by default .

It is a bit disturbing that they are interpreted as some sort of audio
quality tweak settings ? Which they are not .

It's a sort of pattern emerging , I've actually done it myself ! finding
these settings trying to tweak stuff , realising that your are most
likely to break something else by deviating to far from the defaults .
And the inevitably second part worry about the transcoding rates
presented by the UI which are bogus ,it's a placeholder for the typical
16/44.1 flac . And yes also run the debug commands to see what the
servers is really up to when transcoding eventually realising that's
it's working as it should . And just a lot of fuss for nothing .

Is it an unavoidable rite of passage for a squeezebox audiophile to go
trough this :)

About the original problem , I'm not near my system now so I can't try .
But I did try some time ago with the Touch . Flac or pcm works at all
supported rates , but ALAC or aiff does not .

Was this question ever answered does work as intended with the defaults
settings in file types ? Do you get music ?
