You're right - it is DIY-ish. Certainly not audio jewellery. It only has analogue out, so isn't plugged into the TP - I put it on there to give you an idea of scale. I think that you would enjoy dipping your toes into the DIY waters. The Pi ecosystem is very rich, with good soundcards (IQaudio, HiFiBerry etc), and good players (piCorePlayer, SqueezePlug, Volumio etc) and mostly at commodity prices (or free).
