I think* I've managed to attenuate with dither, albeit in a fixed fashion, by doing this in convert.conf and setting the regular volume to 100. In convert.conf, set the "flc flc" line as follows: flc flc * * [flac] -dcs $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [sox] -q -t wav - -t flac -C 0 $RESAMPLE$ - gain -30 dither Replace -30 with whatever dB of attenuation you want.
