Hi Wombat! Sorry I missed your post during the panic attack I experienced after extracting myself from the accursed "Do loop". It was tough. I was actually being somewhat flippant myself when I said that the 24/48 version of Automatic For The People sounded better than my 16/44.1. It does but I am quite happy to attribute the difference in audio quality to the mastering of the recording rather than the size of the box it was wrapped up in under my Xmas tree. I haven't converted it to 16/44.1 precisely because I agree with you that it is going to sound the same as when encoded as 24/48 & don't want to spend the time fiddling with it . But being an innately obliging chap I shall do so if you press me again on the matter. For the record, I have never said that I consider the Brokkoly incompetent with 16/44.1 material - on the contrary, I find that it does a better job than the DAC in my Transporter, which I appreciate is a position some forum members hold to be somehow impossible in the bewildering universe we find ourselves in.
