Might it be an idea to run TWO identical USB cables between the pi and the DAC and send an inverted digital signal along one of them so that a differential path like with XLR could be recreated? The pi has multiple USB sockets and there must be DACs with more than one, no? If not, there's surely a market opportunity for an enterprising Audiophile specialist company looking to differentiate itself with radical forward thinking! ;)
