Several years ago when I was still in IA we used ACL for many of the same audit tests / work. But, in addition we used it to test 100% of tuition billing for a semester; well let me modify that, we said if any student got a grade that semester they should also have a tuition billing. - with certain approved exceptions. We did this for 100% of one semester. We found no major errors! But, the Registrar's Office liked it so much they took our plan and use it every semester. We also have a number of foreign students on visas; many of which do not qualify for in-state tuition. We ran a 100% test one semester and found about $70,000 in unauthorized in-state tuition for several visa classifications. This would have continued for ever if not for us. Now the Registrar's Office does this same test every semester. Just some ideas for ACL & IDEA uses.

I am curious - how many of you use ACL actively?
We have used it for an increasing number of applications, but I feel as if we are in the forefront on the government scene with it's use. We have used it for payroll testing, vouchers, financial transactions, insurance, student financial aid, and contracts compliance (at least I think that's it). What other applications have you used it for?
