Ritchie,
An
interesting question from a non bank auditor. Thomson/RIA has an excellent
publication called Bank Internal Auditing Manual
http://www.riahome.com/estore/detail.asp?ID=BIAM You
might also check out the associations representing banking professionals
including the Bank Administration Institute at http://www.bai.org/ and the American Bankers
Association at http://www.aba.com/default.htm
For
specifics on auditing banks you can go to the AuditNet library and review the
banking industry pages. There are a number of bank related audit programs
in the AuditNet inventory. Also Protiviti KnowledgeLeader, a fee based
subscription service, has excellent information and resources on auditing and
risk management for banks (audit programs, checklists and guides). AuditNet
users can sign up for a free 30 day trial subscription to KnowledgeLeader. Also
the FDIC, FFIEC and the Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors and the
National Credit Union Association have useful information on auditing financial
institutions.
I hope
this information helps. Good luck!

Jim, everyone,
Good
day. I would like to ask for some resources on the banking industry,
specifically savings banks. I would like to understand in a nutshell how
things work for a savings bank (major income streams, critical business
processes, transactions with accounting illustrations, banking-specific
terminologies, etc.) just so I would have a better understanding of the
industry.
Any
writeup on concepts, as well as process flows, or any other resource that you
may be able to provide would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
everyone.
Regards, Ritchie A.
