Thank you very much for the help, I have now got
it working perfectly.
I upgraded to the latest version, and the 'diropq=w' has fixed my problems.
I'm still using 'udba=reval', and yes I am using
CONFIG_AUFS_COMPAT.

Note, the script in Puppy that does the flushing
of the top 'pup_rw' layer down to the 'pup_ro1' save layer is
/usr/sbin/snapmergepuppy. Puppy v2.16alpha will be released soon with the
latest script. snapmergepuppy was originally based on
'snapmerge' provided in the Unionfs package but
is now totally rewritten.
