Now I understand what you are pointing out is the error of fstat(2).
Let me know a few things,
- Are these two tests (Mutt + /tmp+aufs+nfs and Mutt + /tmp+nfs) done on
  the same kernel?
- Is CONFIG_SECURITY enabled for the kernel which is used for aufs test?
