The uloop example is a general answer, looking for the correct question(s).
For example:

It can be used to provide the special file systems used by Plan-9 (or Inferno)
within the Linux kernel.
This would bring the unified view of the electronically accessable world to
Linux, similar to what the Plan-9 OS does.

Once the world is just another entry in the file system tree, the making of
a simplified user interface to it becomes a much smaller task.
