Recently XFS stopped maintaining the internal size of symlink (inode->i_size). And there are cases which aufs returns the size as it is. Although I am not using XFS, I could guess this problem and I addressed it in aufs2. As long as you use XFS as an branch of aufs1, you would meet this problem. When I have time I will fix aufs1.
