I am afraid I cannot fully understand what you want. Do you mean /dev/hdc = /dev/hda + /dev/hdb? Generally it is impossible. For instance, when /dev/hda contains ext2 and /dev/hdb does xfs, no one can merge them as block device. It is only native filesystem who knows the logical layout which is constructed on block device. You need to mount them and handle them as filesystem. Because aufs is a filesystem, the result is a filesystem obviously. J. R.
