The "opaque" is an aufs specific internal attribute for a directory. When it is set to 2, then aufs stops looking-up at the branch index 2. In other words, aufs hides the files under the directory on the branch 3 and lowers. > And if a file on a branch is whiteouted, it's like it wouldn't exist on > that branch, but on the branches below it may still exist but isn't visable?
