Because aufs keeps the information about the file which has ever hardlinked in aufs. This information is flushed when you remount aufs. Then why it was not flushed in your case. I guess the reason is that you didn't install aufs-util. Try installing aufs-util, and "-o remount,del:/your/branch" will work (as long as your mount(8) supports /sbin/mount.<fstype>). J. R.
