But in aur.archlinux.org <https://aur.archlinux.org>, it says that requests should be filed using the Package Actions box on the package details page and the mailing list shouldn't be used for that purpose:

If you want to discuss a request, you can use the aur-requests

So which one is true?

Hi,

Requests should be filed using the Package Actions box on the package details page on the AUR website.

Each submitted request automatically creates a related thread on the aur-requests mailing list which can *then* be used to discuss said request (e.g. if the maintainer wants to respond, etc...).
