I would actually not expect many GTK+ theme designers to read any gnome developer blogs. Despite being informed about the changes, I guess most of them realized the difference as they got GNOME 3.20 on their machine. When referring to 'not much time' I was talking about the time since the GNOME 3.20 release about a month ago. Furthermore since only one guy developed the theme and maintains it [1], I think it would be rushed to remove the theme right now. [1] https://github.com/xyl0n/iris/graphs/contributors
