I'm fairly certain there is nothing in the guidelines ([1] or [2]) that prohibits this. The only thing I've seen just says that it's supported in PKGBUILDs, "Files can also be supplied in the same directory where the PKGBUILD is located, and their names added to this array" [3]. Therefore, this isn't a valid reason for deletion.
