Request #40650 has been Accepted by Antiz [1]: Auto updating is indeed unsupported and is genuinely a bad idea as it may lead to (potentially serious) breakages. Additionally, the PKGBUILD itself does not goes along the packaging guidelines [0]. Indeed, despite the missing `-git` suffix, it's a disguised VCS package without a proper `pkgver()` function.
