MarsSeed [1] filed a request to merge mecab [2] into mecab-git [3]: mecab PKGBUILD downloads a source tarball made in 2012 from a personal Google Drive instead of the project's public GitHub.
But actually it doesn't make sense to keep a stable, fixed-version pkg, as upstream seems to not create version tags or releases. Maintainer of AUR/mecab also advised users that their best choice is to switch to the git package.
