Or one can use python-pipx to install either the stable version or the git#development branch to a dir inside $HOME. Upstream also offers prebuilt stable and development Flatpak releases. [a] Otherwise, upstream seems to have disruptive, very specific requirements wrt. Python module dependency versions and also sometimes requiring alternative forks that would conflict and be incompatible with repo packages. [b] E.g., the build requires the fork python-pygame-ce, not currently available in Arch/AUR repos. But it also requires python-pyscroll, for which the AUR package depends on python-pygame, not the fork python- pygame-ce. pygame-ce is not drop-in compatible with its original upstream python- pygame, yet it occupies the same Python module directory namespace 'pygame'.
