A funny thing happened to me on the way to the forum,as they say.:-)
Recently flew Mel to London, managed to get to a row of four to sleep on,
whilst some four hours or so from London I felt the unmistakeable
shaking of the use of speed brakes and the a/c demonstrably slowing
down. This happened several times and as I was lying on my side it nearly
rolled me off the narrow seat.
Naturally I sat up and wondered what was going on.
Upon landing I was able to go to the cockpit and ask Captain Egan what
had happened.
He said we were in wave and the speed brakes and engines were doing
their job of
controlling speed and that at one point we nearly went through VNE !!!!!
This also happened some two and three quarter hrs out from London as well.
