Gary (and others)
The fully certified aircraft products have only been around for a few
years, however, they have been in use in the light sport aircraft
market for a while.
Lanitz originally was a model aeroplane company in Germany, a long
way back. They have been making (and still make) a heat shrink model
aeroplane film called Oracover since the 80s (I think). Anyone
familiar with model aeroplane covering films like Solarfilm,
Monokote and similar would know exactly what Oracover is like.
In around 2000 the company was involved as the covering suppliers for
an experimental full size aircraft (prototype Ruppert
Archaeopteryx?). I believe from that they went into the UL/sport
market, where they did some development work on their products. The
UL fabric (600) currently on the market is actually their third
version of UL fabric. From there they have gone into the certified
aircraft market.
Oratex is really Solarfilm for "proper" aeroplanes. :-)

SWK
