Submit a response by 14 May - MULTICOM

CASA has provided a final option for the MULTICOM proposal. RAAus fully
support and endorse this proposal from CASA regarding use of MULTICOM at
uncharted aerodromes and encourage members to submit their support on the
<https://www.vision6.com.au/ch/48209/46txd/2533248/ae09d6329.html> CASA
website. For clarity, we provide some definitions and a plain English
explanation of the change below.

'In the vicinity" of an aerodrome noted on a chart (as defined in CAAP 166-1
(4)) as a horizontal distance of 10 nm from the aerodrome reference point
and at a height above the aerodrome that could result in conflict with
operations at the aerodrome. This allows for parachute or aerobatic
operations above the aerodrome.

'In the circuit area' of an uncharted aerodrome (as defined in the CASA
consultation document) as a horizontal distance of 3 nm from the aerodrome
to a height of 1,500 feet Above Ground Level (AGL). This allows for circuit
joining and circuit operations at the uncharted aerodrome.

The proposal is for pilots to use MULTICOM 126.7 when operating 'in the
circuit area' of uncharted aerodromes. If operating at a CTAF marked on a
chart, the relevant frequency provided from ERSA should be used 'in the
vicinity' of the aerodrome. At other times, bearing in mind the majority of
pilots, other than aerial application pilots do not generally operate below
1500 feet AGL, the area frequency should be monitored and used.

Members are strongly encouraged to submit a response, as CASA will assess
the implementation of this proposal based on the number of responses
received.

Consultation closes 14 May 2018.
