39th FAI Nationals GULGONG Feb 16th Due to a strong easterly late in the day massive outlandings occurred. Only Bob Ward and Graham Parker in 15/18M and less than half of standard class managed to complete the set task. All of Open class completed the task. Three times world Champion Ingo Renner from Sth Australia is showing his class and has moved into the lead in Standard class, followed Miles Gore-Brown NSW and then Matt Anglim of Qld. Miles Gore-Brown was in the lead until an outlanding yesterday cost him his points lead. In 15Metre class Graham Parker has a firm hold on the lead followed by Narromine local Arnie Hartley/ In 15/18 Metre class Graham Parker leads followed by Queenslander Bob Ward then Tracy Tabart from Vic. In Open class Gerrrit Kurstjens of the Netherlands holds the lead from Dion Weston from Sth Aust then Queenslander John Buchanan. In the prestigousTrans-Tasman Challenge Richard Downer [no relation to Alexander!!] representing NZ has a firm grip on the title with two wins and one 2nd… an impressive result as he has successfully completed the task each day when many experienced pilots have failed. The Australian representative in the challenge Matt Anglim from Queensland had a win yesterday to bring him within 50 points of Richard’s lead.
