Hello all,

I was present at the airship on both Friday and Sunday and had the great pleasure of witnessing one of the most inspirational acts I have seen in gliding. The Victorians, and those in attendance on Sunday will recall the very poor weather we had, 33C on the ground and a strong (20-25Kt) Northerly wind.

I had been told by friends who attended earlier in the week about Manfred Radius spectacular take off, rolling sharply on tow, Manfred did not do this on Sunday.

Manfred put on his magnificent show (as usual) that was to culminate in an inverted ribbon cut.

Nearing the end of his display Manfred announced that the conditions were too turbulent for this final act, by this time the ribbon had already been erected.

In front of nearly one hundred thousand people Manfred announced that he would not cut the ribbon, he made a low pass, turned around and landed back in to wind.

WHAT AN AMAZING MAN!!!!

For someone to travel to the other side of the world and not complete his headline act on the busiest day takes remarkable courage and intelligence.

Manfred is fine role model for young and for that matter any pilot. This great act of discretion was certainly the highlight of the airshow for me, it was truly inspirational.

I guess this proves the old theory: There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old-bold pilots.

With no disrespect intended I certainly know where Manfred Lies.

Just something to think about

Safe Flying,

Caleb White
