39th FAI NATIONALS GULGONG 22nd Feb ‘01 Hi All, Day 9 Attachments posted are Provisional Daily results.
Weather has at last favoured us , so a wonderful day, in fact a boomer was the result. Tomorrow is expected to be even better but as it is the last day long tasks are not expected to be set.. Unstable air from the Sth plus warm inland conditions created good Cu’s with cloud base at 8,000 ft going to 9,000 ft QNH late in the day. Thermals started at 5-6 kts in strength and eventually 9 to 10 kts were to be found. Early starters were penalised on the 1st leg by being slow and were easily overtaken by the late leavers. The easterly flow which has influenced final glides so markedly all week did not occur, so final glides were more typical glides. No outlandings occurred. Set tasks were: Open 465 klms 15/18M 446 klms Standard 413 klms Provisional Results. Open Class John Buchanan 139 kph Gerrit Kurstjens 130 kph Pam Kurstjens 124 kph 18M Graham Parker 131 kph Bob Ward 130 kph Tracy T 126 kph 15M Graham Parker 131 kph Arnie Hartley 117 kph David Speight [NZ] 115 kph Standard Class Bruce Cambell 137 kph Miles Gore-Brown 135 kph Andrew Georgeson 133 kph Interest has suddenly increased with Bruce Campbell’s win in Std class today. Bruce has closed the gap on Ingo Renner [Vic] though Ingo holds a commanding lead and only a disaster such as an outland would see Ingo lose his grip on the title. peterH
