Come on guys/gals, do we really have to have the mindset that this is
'boring'. Sounds great to me.
Lets have a marketeer think up a catchy phrase that might even get some of
these stories in the local papers.

Would rather be above 8,000 than on the ground talking about flying.

Subject: Re: [aus-soaring] BORING GCWA at Cunderdin
Oh well may as well boast a bit even though I did not make it.
Conditions at Cunderdin looked good for the weekend with a heat wave over
WA. No maximum anywhere in the state below 30C.
Saturday with trough conditions down the West Coast and 38C forecast for the
wheatbelt conditions should be good. Wind looked reasonable from the east.
Bob Smoothy still wanted a 750 km in his PIK 20E. I thought why not go along
as well in the Jantar Std3. He left for Mullewa (380kms) and return for 760
kms between 10:00 and 10:30. Due to some problems I could not get away to
follow him until just after 11:00. Things went well with regular 5 knot
climbs eventually turning into some 7 knots going to 10000'. Things were
going well under the Cus and not so good in the blue. I reached Mullewa in
about 3 hours. At this point all the equations still worked. Then we hit a
quite spot ( 3 knot climbs after a search) and the wind should have dropped
a bit. Anyway at 5:00pm I still had 208 kms to go with 3 knot climbs and 1hr
45 before sunset. The equations no longer worked. I landed at Ballidu at
about 6:00pm 120 kms from home and Bob had to motor back 51 kms from home.
This gave me 640 kms and Bob 709 kms. I eventually got back to the airfield
at about 11:30pm.
Sunday more trough conditions 39C forecast. We thought a late start due to
the temp difference from yesterday. The Cus started to pop at around 11:30
am, can't be all bad. So we hastily changed our task to a 314kms under the
Cus. Iain Russell (Astir Cs)and I took of and we again got 5 knot overall
averages with a lot of 7 knot climbs to around 10000'. Some clouds did not
work hence a couple of 3.5 knoters were used. Oh well can't have every
thing. 112 kph for me. I felt that with good clouds and good heights it
should have been faster.
When the conditions are good here they are GOOD!.
I guess this weather will get to the Eastern State about tomorrow but then
it will be a week day!
Regards
