Saturday was a most interesting day at the Marsh. My interpretation was a
cooler airmass with a south / easterly wind at the field and a somewhat
warmer mass about 20 km west with a clear convergence line, made visible by
a narrow band of Cu's, marking the different air most of the flyable day. At
the field we had moderate climbs (2-4 kt) to about 3000 ft. A few pilots
managed to crawl out from under that and had climbs of 6 kt to 7500 ft where
only airspace stopped us. Flying close to the aerodrome was reported as
ordinary all day while we had a ball only 20 km away. I couldn't afford to
outland (job interference) and flew only 200 km but believe 300 km would
have been quite feasible. Not bad for a late summer's day in our aerea.
