If slow downloads are a problem, then you might
like to look into whether your ISP offers web-based e-mail (so you can check for
large, useless e-mails before downloading), or get a web-based mail provider
(like www.mail.com) which allows you to check
remote POP3 postboxes.
Then you can delete the ones that are rubbish and
just get the "good" ones.
