Brian, your impression is wrong, I do not interpret the book wrongly and 
instruct exactly by it. The glider lifts off and climbs together with the 
tug in high tow. How far before I go into low tow I have deliberately not 
discussed. My interpretation of safe height may be different to yours but 
that's beside my point. The 50 ft difference I mention refer to being above 
or below the slipstrean, at whatever heigth above the ground (oviously more 
than 50 feet).
As to the "old" method, my experience with instruction in Australia is much 
to recent to even know it. It is also for this limited experience that I 
have not critisized you or any of the others but only put my point of view 
because I have the benefit of having instructed both positions, low and high 
tow.
