To previous posts, it is certainly worth occassionally reminding ourselves that the list has the character of chat around the clubroom bar.
It is also noticeable that there are several (could one say 'entrenched'?) camps, one of which is keen to explore strategic and visionary thinking nationally (which this list allows); and inevitably its corrollary - those who don't want to think about the future (some commentators might say not think period). I'm always fascinated when the latter berate the former about talking without doing. That suggests that the opinion leaders in gliding obviously don't flaunt their credentials often enough. And similarly, it is a cheap shot to denigrate someone's initiatives by measuring them against your criteria and not against the design brief. Because when you innovate, inevitably some trials will be provisional, and some will only achieve the original design aims, not necessarily those applied by later users. Obviously I have a number of opinion leaders specifically in mind; but I'll let them speak for themselves. The critics as always have the 'delete' button available to them. Anyone who wants to tell me to stop probing the future is invited to email me direct, and you will get my standard 3 page gliding CV and a request that you show minimum equivalent training, qualifications, experience, talent, expertise and scores on the board in return.
