The Wave Camp was a roaring success.  There was strong wave every day, and the weather improved each day.  Over the few days there were several gold heights.  Repeatedly.  THAT was easy.  And there were at least two Diamonds, possibly more.  Ken Secomb got his Diamond with a flight to 19,800'.

Yesterday, Tuesday, was the best day.  Arriving at Noelhurst there was a beautiful Foehn gap between Mt William and the airfield, and another just downwind to the east of the airfield, and then another, and another...  The gaps stayed there all day, never closing, hardly shifting.

I got my Diamond as well, with a flight yesterday to 24,700' QNH!  It wasn't just the hypoxia making me feel euphoric!  It's extraordinairy looking down at clouds 16,000' below you, seeing them stretch off for hundreds of kilometers.  There were plenty of wave clouds down below as well.  But it was -30 degrees outside, and my feet were numb.   I'd gone through one layer of cirrus, with another one higher to the west.  There were ice spicules covering the canopy above me, and most of it was misted except the clearviews.

I was still intermittently getting 3 knots above 24,500', but I was somewhat hypoxic, and didn't want to hunt around for the lift at that altitude.  So out came the brakes.  It took a long time to get down, and I played around at low altitude for a while.  Low altitude being 14,000'.

Melbourne Control gave me the airways clearance.   Flight Service quizzed me about what I planned to do once I reached FL 250, whether I'd be hanging around.   I don't think other aircraft could hear my transmissions, as one radioed  "Melbourne, what sort of aircraft is that?"

What a great camp, and what an amazing flight I had!

Never let it be called the waveless camp again!
