Seeing those wave clouds reminds me of when in September 1999 when I was on
my way to Benalla to start my ab initio course. I was on the train and
dutifully reading Basic Gliding Knowledge. I was passing about Locksley
when I was reading the bit on wave and the tell tale lenticular couds. I
looked out the window of the train toward the Strathbogie Ranges and, yes,
there were the typical wave clouds: smooth "eyebrow" shaped ones over more
ragged rotor cloud. Text book stuff. I looked for a while thinking how it
was funny I'd never noticed them before and that they had obviously been
there all along. I went back to BGK. But it was just one of those
marvellous coincidences. I travel to Benalla on a fortnightly basis and I
have NEVER seen those clouds since!
