As an Aeronautical Engineer, I was fortunate enough to graduate within the Air
Force. I was surprised to learn that 10 years after graduation still less than
two thirds (pretty close to only a half actually) of the civillian members of
my RMIT class had gotten jobs in the Aerospace industry. It is pretty sad to
say that the two Universities that do Aero Eng in Oz produce roughly double
what the aerospace industry in Oz can actually handle.

That being said, once you have a few years experience, it isn't that hard to
stay employed in the industry, especially defence related.

She can try contacting (if she hasn't already):

I know that 'Head Office' do take on people for work experience and similar,
but I am not sure what the current situation in South Melbourne is, so no guarantees
unfortunately. Alternatively, contact me independant of the list for other
aero companies in the defense industry in Oz.
