Well, Mike, since you're happy to throw strong words like 'gutless' around 
we may as well be frank.

There are no direct elections for GFA Council because Queensland, South 
Australia and Western Australia wouldn't tolerate it.  They want to keep the 
gerrymander.  That's why we don't have direct elections.  As a sandgroper, I 
sympathise with the reasons but it's still a gerrymander and those three 
would walk rather than see it abolished.

Yes, there could be state-by-state direct elections but would that be any 
more democratic?  A minority of the membership would still elect a majority 
of the Council votes.

Aren't these three States the ones you've been most associated with, Mike?  
Did YOU push hard for democracy in the GFA when you were a power in these 
States or did you forfeit your right to criticise the system now by going 
along with it when you could have tried to changed it?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Besides, I want to see you come to grips with solving a real political 
problem instead of mindless sloganeering.
