We've had a long-running club project to put the entire ridge on a
turntable so that we can "bring the mountain to Mohammed" regardless
of the wind direction. The project is still in the planning stages
though -- Every time we start to make headway half of our project
team gets diverted to our wind generator project (which will
make 20kt winds blow in whatever direction we want whenever we're
running a Flinders Ranges wave camp), so progress is slow.
Mike Borgelt will be pleased to know that Wind Prospects is putting
wind turbines along the crest of our ridge -- We've been in successful
discussions with them to make sure that they're far enough behind the
crest to ensure that they aren't a hazard to our flying. We're looking
forward to their installation, because we figure that with a bit of
covert midnight recabling and enough Amps we'll be able to feed current
*into* the turbines, which will make them function as electric fans which
suck air up the ridge, thereby creating a localized westerly on demand.
- mark :-)
[ more seriously: If BGC or any other club wants to come to Lochiel
on one Westerly weekend to do some ridge flying, you'll be very
welcome. ]
