Having read the article, where did all the fatalities occur? The bad final
glide accidents all seemed to have no injuries.

Gliding isn't the only branch of sport aviation with a fatality/accident
problem. The AUF is wondering why their members are killing themselves at
such a great rate.
2 in 99, 4 in 00, 5 in 01, 7 in 02 and 5 so far in 03. A worrying trend and
they can't find a pattern it seems. Not airworthiness related for the most
part just pilots stuffing up according to the AUF.
If you assume the pilots aren't all suicidal then I can only assume they
aren't properly trained which includes developing the judgement to avoid
critical situations and the skill to make them non critical when they do
occur.
