Simon - you are on the right track. George Moffat flew Open Class at the Waikerie Worlds in 1974, and wrote "winning on the wind" some little while previously - he won the 1970 event at Marfa (Texas) in 1970. Try the Soaring Society of Americal for where to get a copy.
