nice to see that someone cares Chris because  I'm sure that  the majority of teachers who profess to teach English could not. Cheers

Subject: [Aus-soaring] Spelling

Nice to see somebody pick up a spelling error today.
There was another, but I won't say whose, which is very common on this list and seen in many other places in recent years.
It seems that many people, especially from the USA, do not know the difference between "lose" and "loose". According to my dictionaries they are not interchangeable, but they are interchanged, though they have different meanings.

You can lose a game, or lose some money. You can even have loose change in your pocket. Just don't muddle their spellings up!

Lose: to fail at, or to be unable to find. "Ann would always lose her keys."

Loose: not tight or fixed in place. "The railings were really loose, a danger to everyone."

Those with a loose girth could very well lose it by going gliding especially at a winch club.

If aerotowers promise not to assail me I will be quite quiet about spelling in future. :-)
