I wish to compliment Internode, the ISP who so
generously provides the aus-soaring service.
In order to keep control of spam, I have a large
number of e-mail addresses. The e-mail address I use for this list is not
used for any other purpose. It has not ever received one item of spam,
except for the occasion when spam was sent to the list itself, as distinct from
the addresses on the list.
That is as close as one will get, in the real
world, to proving that the addresses on this list have not been
compromised.
Well done, Simon, and thanks again. I have
learned a great deal from this list - and wait enthusiastically for more news on
how I can use my Toyota and a pulley block to launch gliders!
Cheers,
Boyd Munro
P.S. Terry, you have listed your e-mail
address on your personal homepage www.rbe.net.au/~tfn/Gliding/Gliders.html
That page is listed in Google, and consequently it is available to the spiders
which crawl the net harvesting e-mail addresses (your e-mail address is
incorporated in the Copyright link at the bottom right-hand corner of the
page). You will always get plenty of spam at any e-mail address which
appears in a link on a page listed in Google!

Subject: [Aus-soaring] Spam.... anyone else?? Greetings fellow soaring people, I may be alone in this, but I seem to keep on receiving daily little treasures of unwanted spam and thinly disguised virus attacks. Usually it is limited to three or four per day, but it is as annoying as it is frustrating. Sometimes the "sender" is a hotmail address, at other times it suggest a more legitimate sender whose address is being "used". It has been been a pretty regular event since the great spam attack on this list earlier this year. Why then raise this matter on this list? The common factor in all of them is a reference to our much appreciated ISP who so generously makes this list possible. Here is a snippet from my Mailwasher log in respect of one of the more recent gifts: "[Mailman Site List] Re: document - <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>" Here is the "content" of yet another message received tonight: You got a new message. If I am the only recipient, then it's surely my problem and mine alone. If others on the list are also being favoured with similar presentations, then I wonder if there is something which might be able to be done on a higher level. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the matter, Terry
