There was a long
discussion on sunglasses recently. As a consequence I have purchased via
my optometrist sunglasses with Zeiss Skylet lenses with 80% absorption (middle
of the 70%, 80%, 90% options), a brownish tint and a bifocal element for
instrument/dashboard reading. So far they show up as fantastic for general
use in that they produce stunning clarity from near to the far horizon in the
prime field of view combined with the eye feeling very comfortable whilst in the
outside bright glare. Such eye comfort I haven't experienced outdoors
before. They were not cheap, but then again they are simply heaps better
(dare I say an order of magnitude) than an earlier pair of prescription
sunnies from the same optometrist which I have used for some
time.
Visibility of
clouds, aircraft, etc. are obviously much enhanced. However I can't
say that there might not be better sunnies for gliding for a
particular individual available from another source.
Thanks to Jim Kelly,
Graham the opto, Cath & others for the earlier
discussion.
